Gardening Exchange

Hi All

Have just had to throw away my Mom's rhodendron due to some kind of disease. There was no new grow from last year, all the leaves had gone brown and there were some milky coloured grubs in the soil (I think they were some type of weevil). Has anyone else experienced this or does anyone know what it might have been? (The plant was only about 5 years old and was grown in the right type of soil).

Thanks
Tina

Hi Tina,
The National Trust is warning about 2 new and dangerous rhododendron diseases that have the potential to wipe out a lot of other plants too. Apparently they were responsible for the "sudden oak death" in America. The NT want all garden rhododendrons to be destroyed before it's too late to stop these diseases from spreading. It looks like you did the right thing! if you Google "rhododendron diseases" you'll see it on the Daily Telegraph page.
