Rosemary cuttings

Hi there - Has anyone every sucessfully taken cuttings from rosemary ? I have just taken about a million cuttings from three large bushes i found - I've started some off in compost and am starting some off in a jug of water on the window sill - I have no idea what i am doing. The temptation to pull up the ones in compost to see if they are growing roots is almost unbearable. Anyone got any tips ? Cheers LOH
